Just 2 miles along the coast from Kinlochlaich Treehouse is Port Appin, locality of Airds Hotel, the Pierhouse restaurant, a craft shop and the local food shop…..but also the ferry which takes you onto the enchanting Lismore Island. Regular ferry times allow easy access to the island, and being single track and very quiet, the best way to explore the island is by bike. We used to spend many summers of our childhood cycling as a family along these narrow twisting roads all the way to the end, about 12 miles in all. Stopping at the Broch for a look out, playing on sandy beaches and tumbling over old lime kilns for a wee explore, and various beautiful gardens of friends. It is an amazing experience, because you are perched in the middle of Loch Linnhe, and the mountains of Morven to the West, Cruachan and various munros to the East, and north towards Ben Nevis and Fort William. South on a clear day opens up the vista to Jura, Colonsay and the Garvellachs.
Now there is a wee bike hire facility on the Island, just off the ferry landing. Enquiries call 07376 425996, Adult Bikes £15 per day, Childs bike £10 per day, Tag Along £5 and baby seat free. Helmets provided free.
Definitelty worth a visit and something we will do with the boys in the summer.
