¬† One of the highlights when driving north to stay at the Treehouse in Appin, has to be the spectacular drive through some of the most spectacular scenery Scotland has to offer. Once you leave the darkness of the brooding Loch Lomond behind, it’s up into the hills, and beyond Tyndrum the landscape opens up into easily my favourite part of Scotland. Straight roads take you ¬†speeding past Bridge of Orchy, then up again onto the steppes of the Rannoch Moor, (saluting the Tree which grows out of the boulder, of course!), then past the lochens and down towards the Devil’s Staircase, past the Glencoe ski resort. The panorama changes as you hunker down beneath the imposing Buachaille’s and Bidean, and into the narrows of Glencoe itself. At this point it’s the passengers who get the breathtaking views looking up the sheer sides of the mountains: mountains which were a millenium ago the base of what was a Super-volcano…Click on this link for more information
